The 5-Minute Shower Ritual That Can Change Your Whole Day

The 5-Minute Shower Ritual That Can Change Your Whole Day

Can we all agree that the internet has made self-care entirely too complicated?

Apparently I need a silk robe, twelve serums, a cold plunge, a meditation app, and the ability to wake up at 5 a.m. to become my "best self."

Friend...I barely remember to switch the laundry over.

Most days I'm trying to answer emails, make soap, pull weeds before they take over the garden, and figure out what's for dinner. A three-hour spa routine isn't happening.

But five minutes?

I can usually find five minutes.

And I've realized those five minutes can change the entire mood of my day.

My shower is my reset button.

Maybe it's because nobody expects anything from me while I'm in there. Maybe it's the hot water. Maybe it's the smell of lavender or citrus drifting through the steam.

Whatever it is, it's one of the few places where I actually stop moving.

No phone.

No scrolling.

No doomreading the news.

Just me, a bar of handmade soap, and a few quiet minutes where nobody needs anything.

It's surprisingly magical.

Here's the funny thing...

For years I thought my skin was just "dry."

Turns out, some of the products I was using were stripping every bit of moisture out of it.

I'd hop out of the shower and immediately slather on lotion because my skin felt tight and cranky. It never occurred to me that maybe the soap was part of the problem.

Once I switched back to gentler handmade soap, everything changed.

Less itching.

Less tightness.

Less feeling like a reptile every winter.

Funny how that works.

I keep my routine ridiculously simple.

Wash with a good goat milk soap.

Pat my skin mostly dry.

Rub on a little No Drama Mama Cream while my skin is still damp.

Done.

No seventeen-step routine.

No products I can't pronounce.

No spending forty-five minutes in front of the mirror wondering what goes on first.

Simple works.

The older I get...

...the more I think self-care isn't about adding things.

It's about taking away the noise.

Five quiet minutes.

A beautiful bar of soap.

A scent that makes you smile.

A cup of tea waiting when you get out.

That's enough.

And if today was hard—and let's be honest, some days just are—you deserve those five minutes.

No guilt required.

Karen's Two Cents ☕

Can I tell you something?

I've spent years making soap, growing herbs, tending gardens, starting businesses, closing businesses, and trying to figure out this whole adulting thing. (Spoiler alert: I'm still winging it.)

The dishes will still be there.

The weeds will still need pulling.

There will always be another email to answer or another thing on the to-do list.

So if taking five extra minutes in the shower with a bar of soap you love makes your day a little brighter...do it.

Don't save the good soap for company. YOU are company.

Don't wait for a special occasion.

Use the pretty mug. Burn the nice candle. Use the fancy soap. Make the cup of tea.

Life has a funny way of reminding us that ordinary Tuesdays become the days we miss the most.

So take the long shower.

Use the good soap.

Sit outside with your tea for five extra minutes.

The laundry can wait.

Love,
